1 dead, 1 injured in shooting
NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- One person is dead and another is in the hospital after shots rang out in a South Florida neighborhood.
Police said a dispute between people in two cars ended in gunfire, near Miami Gardens Drive and Northeast 19th Avenue at around 8 p.m. Tuesday. "We just heard pop, pop, pop," said Scott Carnahan, who heard the gunshots.
Inside one of the cars, two men were struck by bullets. The passenger died, while the vehicle's driver maneuvered into a nearby convenience store parking lot. One resident said, "When we walked toward the car, there was a guy sitting in the car. He was already shot, his shirt was all bloodied up, and he wasn't moving, and the next guy was standing for a moment outside the car, that had a gunshot wound to his head and to his hands."
Crews transported the second victim to the hospital in serious condition.
Detectives frisked and questioned a man at the scene. His role, if any, in the shooting is not known.
The victim's loved ones arrived at the scene and were visibly emotional upon news of his death. Meanwhile, residents in the area were shocked that the crime happened so close to home. "There's crazy people out there doing crazy things," one man said. "This is getting like a bad neighborhood."
"To see something like this happen in the day is very shocking because you think it's more secure and more safe during the day, but it just goes to show that it is not really safe at any time," said another resident.
Police continue to investigate. They have no description of the subjects or the second vehicle involved in the shooting.
