New airport Metrorail to open soon

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Fla. (WSVN) -- The new MIA Metrorail will soon be available to travelers.
The new Miami International Airport Metrorail station will soon be open, and Miami-Dade Transit officials hope it makes passengers catch their flights with a breeze. "Miami joins the club of the great metropolitan cities of the world that are directly tied into their airport," said Miami-Dade Transit director Ysela Llort.
The new line will provide easy access and will take passengers to all stations between Dadeland South and Earlington Heights, continuing west towards the new MIA Station.
Getting to the airport will still cost just $2. "It's cost effective, convenient and fast because you are not gonna get stuck in traffic," Llort said.
Those riding between Palmetto and Brownsville will take the green line, then transfer to the orange line at Earlington Heights. "Once passengers arrive by Metrorail, they will come up these escalators and head here to the MIA Mover for a free ride into the airport," Llort said.
The average estimated time from when riders first get on the Metrorail to when they take to MIA mover into the terminal is about 15 to 20 minutes.
Officials estimate 9,000 people a day will use the MIA Metrorail station to start.
The doors will officially fly open on Saturday, July 28, after three years of construction.
