BSO arrests man wanted in escort scam

HALLANDALE BEACH, (WSVN) -- A man profiled on a 7News investigation and wanted for ripping off high-priced escorts has been arrested.

7 News Investigative Reporter Carmel Cafiero featured a story on 7News last week of a man ripping off high-end escorts. Deputies arrested that man Friday night.

According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, they were following Robert Weiner, who they call a career criminal. Deputies said Weiner noticed he was being followed and tried to escape.

Deputies then caught up to Weiner and a K-9 bit him during the arrest.

Back in 2010, BSO brought Weiner in for questioning, because several out of town escorts claimed Weiner was ripping them off.

Deputies say Weiner has been booking high-end escorts through online websites, claiming to be a manager or a member of a well-known band. Once the escorts arrived, they ended up paying him instead of getting paid.

Weiner has been transported to the hospital and will then be booked into jail.
