NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting where an officer was forced to fire during a confrontation.

Miami-Dade Police responded to the scene of a dispute between two men along Northeast 144th Street and 14th Avenue, at around 2 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, they spotted a man attacking another with a knife.

After the attacker refused to drop his weapon, police opened fire. "I was standing right here when he was shooting my son," said the deceased's mother, Rosalee Williams. "He didn't say nothing. He didn't say he was the police or nothing. He just got out the car, walked up to him, just shooting him, shooting him."

Witnesses said the victim was shot several times and pronounced dead on the scene.

The stabbing victim was airlifted to an area hospital and is expected to be OK.
