PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- One man has died and another has been injured following an argument that ended in gunfire.

Plantation Police responded to the scene of a shooting at the Harbor Town apartment complex, just after 6 p.m. Tuesday, that left 31-year-old David Lawrence Nelson dead. The gunfire went off just a few feet away from Matthew Baker's home. "I was actually in the bathroom," Baker said. "I heard a loud scream, loud yell."

Neighbor Bobby Jones said, "We heard two gunshots, and we came outside, and the policemen got here really quickly."

"There was a shooting, and a white male was shot, and he is deceased," said Plantation Police detective Phil Toman. "I don't know what it was about, I don't know what the motive was, I don't know what their relation is."

Nelson was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, but he died on the way to the hospital.

Hours later, authorities got another 911 call near the scene, which would lead them to the 47-year-old suspected shooter. Toman said, "While on the scene, there was a medical emergency in an apartment nearby, and it appears that a white male was attempting to kill himself by unknown means."

Officers have since heard from that man's wife who told police he tried to overdose on pills. "It just shows you that anything can happen anywhere," Jones said. "So I always try to protect myself."

Police said witnesses positively identified that man transported to the hospital as the fatal shooter. That accused gunman was transported to Westside Regional Medical Center where he is recovering in unknown condition.

Plantation Police continue to investigate.
