Broward ex-commissioner out of prison

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A former Broward commissioner is out of federal prison after serving more than two years for corruption convictions.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel reports that Josephus Eggelletion was released Wednesday from a prison in Georgia. The 63-year-old Eggelletion had previously been a Broward County commissioner and its vice mayor.

Eggelletion was convicted of both federal and state charges. He made a deal with prosecutors to serve time for both convictions simultaneously in federal prison.

In the federal case, Eggelletion pleaded guilty to charges of money-laundering conspiracy and failing to report income on his tax returns. He pleaded guilty later to a state charge of accepting cash payments and a golf club membership from developers who had business before the county.

Eggelletion will be on probation for three more years.
