Board denies proposed loading dock for Midtown Walmart

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Plans to build a controversial Walmart in Midtown Miami has suffered a set back.
The city's zoning appeals board unanimously shot down an amendment that would have allowed the proposed Walmart to build a loading dock on busy North Miami Avenue in Midtown Miami.
One board member said the company just was not clear enough about its plans. "We didn't know what the plan was going to entail. We didn't know the architecture of the plan, whether there would be trees, whether there would be green spaces," said David Young of the Miami Planning & Zoning Appeals Board. "There were so many questions left out that we could not, in good conscience, approve this amendment."
Nearly 200 people showed up for the meeting, Wednesday. Residents were concerned that a Walmart would ruin the unique Midtown neighborhood.
The company still plans on building the store.
