Police arrest serial burglar

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are showing off a huge stolen stash of items they recovered after nabbing a serial burglar.
BSO have laid out a table at a police station with stolen items taken by a repeat robber who's had been busy in Deerfield Beach. The items include valuable pieces of jewelry and silver, among other valuables.
Police said 43-year-old Darrin Matthew Engle has been doing this for the past eight months. So far, police have charged him with 14 burglaries in Deerfield Beach alone. That number is expected to rise.
"We've retrieved high-end jewelry," said BSO Sgt. Craig Brown. "There was a $10,000 Cartier bracelet. There was a Tiffany necklace. There's a lot of high-end things that had a lot of value, obviously on the streets or two the pawn shops, and those are the things he probably got rid of immediately for immediate cash."
Jene Mier was one of the burglary victims who showed up to claim at least some of her stolen items. "This is nice to get back," she said holding a gold bracelet.
Mier also reclaimed a silverware set, but knowing some items are gone for good is troubling. "We have another watch that's missing that I love dearly," she said.
Burglaries have sky-rocketed in South Florida, to the point of some leaving their hurricane shutters up. But one of the best ways you can help stop crime is to call police with tips. By calling Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS you can remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
