Holtz Children's Hospital to open new wing

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A local children's hospital is gearing up for the launch of a new life-saving center.

Holtz Hospital in Miami is opening a new and improved pediatric bone marrow transplant unit.

Hospital officials said the seven-bed unit will begin serving young cancer and sickle cell patients next month. "There is a huge need for these kind of procedures and services, and I hope this unit will be a major boost in our ability to treat more patients as we have to," said a hospital spokesperson.

The expansion will replace the current two-bed unit.

The hospital said it will now be able treat four times as many young patients.
