Residents rescued from apartment fire

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Several South Florida residents are now safe after their apartment went up in flames.
A 7News viewer snapped pictures of the flames as they engulfed the second-story unit of an apartment complex along Northeast 12th Street and 14th Avenue, Friday.
The unit's renter was not home at the time of the fire, but Good Samaritan Delphine Estepe helped the other tenants get out of the building. "The neighbor across the street pointed up and we saw the smoke," said Estepe. "We knocked on the doors to make sure everyone would get out of their houses."
Fire rescue crews put out the flames, but the unit sustained major damage.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
