Port of Miami tunnel project reaches halfway point

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Construction on the Port of Miami tunnel is halfway complete.

On Tuesday, the tunnel-digging machine known as "Harriet" is expected to dig into the port's Dodge Island, which will complete the first of two tunnel tubes.

Then, Harriet will turn around and begin digging the second tube toward Watson Island.

The tunnel is expected to open in 2014.
