Officials warn residents of training operation

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials continue conducting a training operation that might startle some residents.
Law enforcement officers from Broward County began the training exercises that will look like a military operation Thursday. They will continue into Friday night.
Several Black Hawk helicopters will be flying above a training building for officials to practice an exercise just in case they may need to use the techniques in a hostage situation or conduct search warrants.
A few months ago, residents were worried after an exercise was conducted in the Coconut Grove area by the Department of Defense.
Officials want residents to know there will be helicopters flying in the Hollywood and in the beach area. "All the high rises on Hollywood Beach is usually easier to work from the top down, so we will use a hilo to deploy on top of the struck," said Hollywood Police Detective John Graham. "We practice rescue repels. That's also part of the course, if someone is stuck on a line 50 feet in the air. We do practice room entry and we'll have noise flash, diversionary devices and firearms to make an entrance through the windows."
Residents received warning notices several days ago.
The last operation used in the field was in the 1980s.
