Worker dies after falling outside mall

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a man working outside a South Florida mall died after falling 15 to 20 feet.

West Palm Beach police say the man, whose name wasn't immediately released, was working on a scissor lift Thursday outside the Palm Beach Mall when he fell. A police spokesman says the man was likely removing asbestos.

The Palm Beach Mall, located off Interstate 95, was one of Florida's first fully enclosed shopping areas when it opened in 1967. The Palm Beach Post reports that crews have been working to transform the mall, which has been closed since 2010, into a shopping center for outlet stores.
