911 calls released in movie mayhem
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Authorities have released the 911 calls reporting the chaos that ensued inside a South Florida movie theater.
On Monday, police were called to the Regal Cinemas theater on Lincoln Road, during a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises."
According to police, a man got into an altercation with another person who was in the theater and shouted threats. "So he told him to get up and to come with him, and he took him upstairs, and we were in the front, and he took him upstairs all the way to the end," said one 911 caller. "Then, people just started running down, because it was obvious something was going down, so everybody just left the movie theater and started running out."
Law enforcement officers subdued and arrested David Escamillo Martin.
According to Martin, he was annoyed by the moviegoer next to him who was texting, and he was just trying to leave the theater.
Martin had been drinking prior to the incident, police said.
Martin now faces charges of disorderly conduct.
