Police: Man stabs ex-girlfriend, dog to death
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida man accused of stabbing two women and a dog is in police custody.
Authorities said Alfonso Gerard Lucas stormed a home on the 4500 block of Northwest 180th Street, just before 10:30, Monday night, and allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend and the family dog with a knife. "She was saying that he was stabbing her mom, and she was trying to help, and the dog got stabbed," said Lesha Morre, a witness.
Miami Gardens Police arrived to find both deceased on scene.
Witnesses said the victim's daughter escaped but was stabbed when Lucas allegedly ran after her. "He chased her, and he was stabbing her, and we know she was in the bushes on the corner of the house," said Morre.
According to neighbors, a passerby drove the victim's daughter to a nearby convenience store where she called for help. "She was trying to find out about her mom because, she said, 'He stabbed her. I think my mom is dead, I think my mom is dead,'" said Morre.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the daughter of the deceased to Jackson Memorial Hospital with stab wounds. She has since been released.
Shocked residents gathered outside the home, wanting to know what provoked the man to stab his estranged girlfriend and her daughter. "There was something that triggered him off because it's not him," said Shalonda Walker. "Both of them are nice people, so I don't know."
Miami Gardens Police are now trying to determine a motive. "The investigation is still fresh, so our investigators are questioning and still trying to figure out who would do this heinous act," said Miami Gardens Police Detective Mike Wright.
Lucas turned himself into police and is now being questioned by investigators.
Crime Scene Investigators remain on scene Tuesday morning gathering evidence.
