MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A family has been left devastated after a double stabbing in a Miami Gardens home.

Miami Gardens Police said 39-year-old Alphonso Gerard Lucas turned himself in, in connection to the stabbing that left Terrilyn D Gray dead and her daughter, recent Florida International University graduate Curtina Gray in the hospital. The daughter returned to the scene to the arms of waiting family members with her right arm bandaged, late Tuesday morning.

Police said Lucas stormed the home on the 4500 block of Northwest 180th Street, just before 10:30 p.m. Monday and allegedly stabbed both his ex-girlfriend and her dog to death with a knife. Police have charged Lucas with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder.

Ashonda Bowden, a cousin of the deceased, could barely contain her tears, as she remembered the deceased. "She was a good-hearted person," she said. "She did whatever she could."

According to police, after Lucas stabbed Gray and her dog to death, he chased Gray's daughter with the knife. "He chased her, and he was stabbing her, and we know she was in the bushes, on the corner of the house," said Iesha Morre, a witness.

According to neighbors, a Good Samaritan drove the victim's daughter to a nearby convenience store where she called for help. "She was trying to find out about her mom because, she was like, 'He stabbed her. I think my mom is dead, I think my mom is dead,'" said Morre.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue then responded and transported the daughter of the deceased to Jackson Memorial Hospital with stab wounds.

Family members said the couple had a rocky relationship and dated on and off for the last two years. Sunday night, the pair went out dancing. A photo from that night showed Lucas with his arm around a smiling Gray. Bowden said she noticed tension between the couple, however. "After we went dancing, she told me they got into an argument, and he jumped at her, like he wanted to hit her," said the tearful cousin.

In the hours after the stabbing, Lucas surrendered to police. He reportedly gave up little information about the scene or the couple's history. He remains in jail after a judge denied him bond Thursday morning.

Karen Wilson is the aunt of the deceased. "Just shocked that he would do something like that," she said. "It's just hard to believe, hard to believe."

Miami Gardens Police worked the crime scene late into the next morning and would not clear out until just before noon.

Lucas, meanwhile, does have an extensive rap sheet. One of the criminal charges on his record includes stalking.
