Parents arrested after police discover filthy home

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Two parents accused of allowing their children to live in awful conditions are now behind bars.

An undercover officer responded to the 900 block of West Flagler Street after receiving several 911 calls Wednesday night that a man was beating and allegedly pimping out his underage daughter. "The undercover officer made contact with the father," Kenia Reyes of Miami Police said. "He indeed led them to the mother via telephone, provided them with her phone number. She obviously consented to meet with the undercover officer. In exchange for money, she was going to commit a sexual activity."

Police said the woman also wanted to buy drugs from the officer.

Officers looked at the couple's studio apartment, where they live with their four children. Inside the apartment, officers found dirty mattresses, needles, piles of clothes and a filthy refrigerator.

The children's toys were on the floor of the apartment, and some of their pencil drawings can be seen on the walls of the home. "They like playing with Barbies a lot," said 8-year-old Evelyn, who knows the children.

Evelyn had never been inside the apartment, however, because her mother would not allow her to go there.

After looking at the filthy apartment, authorities arrested the children's parents, Gabriel Dejesus Orellana and his wife, Renee Marie Garcia, and charged them with child neglect. "It's incredible. The apartment is destroyed," said Lazaro Sanchez, the property manager's husband, through translation. "There is no forgiveness, from God or anyone."

The Department of Children and Families took into custody the four children, who are between the ages of 7 and 13.

Authorities are still investigating the child prostitution claims.
