Thieves stalk woman to steal laptop
SUNRISE, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida woman is pleading for the crooks to come forward and return her new laptop stolen from her vehicle.
Melissia McKenzie felt someone was watching her from afar as she walked out of the Best Buy in Plantation, Monday night, with her new Mac Book Pro. "I felt good. I got the computer and came out of the store, felt a little uneasy coz I was carrying it in my hand, and it was just exposed," said McKenzie.
McKenzie is now afraid to show her face on camera because of what occurred. "When I got in the car there was a car sitting there with the light on. I was just thinking, why are they sitting there with the light on?" said McKenzie.
McKenzie felt uneasy after she was walking out. Because of her intuition, she made a stop at an Office Depot nearby. "[She] went inside," said Sunrise Police Michelle Eddy, "and I guess she came back out and her car had been burglarized and her laptop was stolen."
The crooks broke into her car window and took off with her brand new $1,000 laptop.
Police suggest that if you make a large purchase to go straight home. "If you are going to go and make large purchases like that, laptops and things like that, my suggestion is you go straight home," said Eddy. "Don't put them in your car coz there is a chance you are being followed. They are sitting in the parking lot watching you."
Eddy says to call police if you are being followed. "You should call 911 immediately. Tell them what you see, and we will get officers in the area," she said.
McKenzie said this will set her back since she starts school next week. "I mean it will take me 18 months to pay off this computer. If you can please return it, I really need this computer for school," she said.
If you have any information on this robbery, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
