ATV accident kills 2, injures 1

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The driver of an all-terrain vehicle and his passenger have died after colliding with a car on a South Florida street.

The accident happened on Wednesday night, near Northwest 31st Avenue and 52nd Street. Police said the ATV was traveling northbound on 31st Avenue in a residential area, something ATVs are not allowed to do in the first place.

Police said the ATV's driver, 24-year-old Marquan Tyson, blew through two stop signs before crashing into a car at the intersection.

The impact killed the driver at the scene and critically injured his passenger, 26-year-old Lazaro Diaz. Rescue crews transported Diaz to Jackson Memorial Hospital where doctors would later pronounce him dead.

Diaz's family decided to donate his organs so others may benefit in his death. "He was very active," said Sandra Acevedo, Diaz's Mother, through tears, "always liked to be in the street, be with his friends. He was a DJ."

Karla Perez, Diaz's sister, said he was always supportive of her. "He would always tell me to do good in school. I'm not going to find anyone else like him, I'm not."

Diaz was the eldest of three children and lived with his mother until just recently, but he was the principal income-earner at the household. They will find it difficult to pay for funeral and burial services and hope anyone might come forward to offer a little help.

A passenger in the car was also taken to JMH and is listed in stable condition.
