Flooding keep 8 Palm Beach County schools closed

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- School's back in session for all but eight schools in Palm Beach County.

Severe flooding from Tropical Storm Isaac forced officials to keep schools in the Loxahatchee and Acreage areas closed on Wednesday. The other 187 schools in Palm Beach County will open for business on Wednesday.

But officials cautioned students living in the flooded areas who attend other schools not to travel until the water subsides. School employees living in those areas were urged to notify their supervisors.

Schools in Broward and Miami-Dade counties reopened on Tuesday.

Palm Beach County was drenched by Isaac's feeder bands late Sunday and early Monday.

The Palm Beach Post reports it is rare for the district to open schools while keeping a few closed.
