NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have set up a perimeter and locked down a school as they search for a subject following a police-involved shooting that left one man injured.

North Miami Police ordered the lock down of North Miami Elementary, just a few minutes before noon, Friday, as it fell within the perimeter of the search area. Police, along with heavily armed US Marshals, are going door-to-door in the search. A police helicopter hovered over the perimeter area, as well.

The search began after the shooting took place in a residential area near Northeast 144th Street and Sixth Avenue. A man received treatment by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics at the scene, and then an ambulance transported the individual to Jackson Memorial Hospital in unknown condition.

This began as police approached a man a witness had identified as a subject matching the description of a man wanted for a homicide. When police approached the subject, police said, shots were fired.

Police continue to investigate the shooting as the search remains on-going.
