NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police said a young boy and a baby girl have been returned to their mother after being taken on a joy ride by a 13-year-old girl.

The incident occurred at 11th Avenue and Northwest 106th Street in Northwest Miami-Dade, Monday night.

According to police, the teen drove away from her home in her aunt's black Infinity. Inside the vehicle were a 5-year-old boy and an infant girl. "This is a young lady, who is going through some issues, she took the car, because of peer pressure or wanting to be friends," said Branden Jones, a family friend.

Police were notified and pulled the teen over about 40 blocks from where she initially drove off in Liberty City. A family member said the teen knows the children. "I just know that my little niece got in the car pulled off with them," said a family member. "I don't really know what went on."

Police pulled the baby out of the back seat along with a young child who were both unharmed. The children are safe and have been reunited with their family.

The teen has been taken into police custody. "The girl is only 13 years old, she doesn't even know how to drive. She could've ran a stop sign, hit someone," said Jones, "ran a red light, with a baby in the car with her-- a newborn baby-- so all this stuff plays a big role."

Officials are investigating.
