SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Broward Sheriff's Office detectives have arrested four employees accused of a retail theft scam.

The theft occurred at the Lowe's on Northwest 160th Avenue and Sheridan Street. Deputies said three cashiers and two floor employees were involved. Surveillance cameras captured the cashiers pretending to scan all the merchandise, but actually only the inexpensive items were charged.

A 3-month investigation by loss prevention revealed that the employees were walking out of the store with expensive merchandise they had not paid for.

In all, detectives said the group stole at least $70,000 worth of power tools, electrical equipment, lawn and garden products, construction and contracting tools and other items.

The items were later sold on-line or to people they knew.
