Condo residents without power

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Residents in a South Florida condominium have been living in the dark for several days after a water pipe burst and caused electrical problems throughout the entire 35-story building.

Management at the Venetia condominium on 555 NE 5 St. sent out a notice to all residents to let them know that on Monday there was an emergency repair to an AC unit on the 11th floor. Condo officials said when crews were making that repair, they accidentally broke a 1-inch water pipe that flooded several apartments and damaged electrical units.

The power to over 380 units at the building... including the elevator... has since been out. They also do not have water because of the busted water pipe.

Some residents have said that the management told them they need to wait to turn the power on and allow electrical system to dry out. Fire inspectors will have the final say when it is safe to turn the power back on.

One resident is upset with the inconvenience and the little help being offered. "They're telling us that supposedly, yesterday, it was going to be fixed by 5, now they are telling us that it's going to be fixed by who knows when," said J. Fieldz. "What are we going to do? They're not offering to pay any type of hotel, they're not offering other accommodations. It's just ridiculous what they've done here."

Another resident decided to leave. "Well, luckily I work for a guy who owns a property on South Beach, so I'm just staying in one of their units, me and my wife. But the walk to the 27th floor is not all that fun," said Mark Parsons.

Several units from the 11th floor down have received some sort of water damage.

The management did not return calls for comment, but a note they released to residents Tuesday night, stated they could expect one more night without power, no water and limited services. As of late Wednesday afternoon, the power remained out and residents do not know when it will be restored.
