MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Miami Gardens Police continue to search for an 11-year-old girl who was last seen late Tuesday night.

The girl was last seen by her grandfather, Alfredo Sharpe. According to her family, she does not have a history of running away, and she left a lot of her stuff behind.

Police are taking this case very seriously and have classified Melaine Ubiera a missing person. Miami Gardens Police went door-to-door Thursday with flyers in search of clues of her whereabouts. "She left her book bag, she left her computer, her iPad," said her stepfather, Cildo Chavez.

Chavez told police her grandfather last saw her standing outside. "He said he saw her wearing a red dress," said Chavez. "He said she told him she was looking at weather because it was going to get bad. He told her to get inside the house and he went to bed. That was the last he saw of her."

When her grandfather went to wake her to get ready for school, Melanie was not in bed. Her book bag was packed for school, and she was not in school. "I went to her bed, and I saw that nobody was there," said Sharpe.

Investigators said the girl was last seen on 178th Street and Northwest 43rd Court. Thursday, police returned to her house to retrieve her cell phone, laptop and iPad which may contain crucial clues.

Her grandfather said she is a straight 'A' student and is on the honor roll at school. She lost her mother 14 months ago when she died and now lives with her grandparents.

Her stepfather is hoping she returns home soon. "We're hoping we can get her back. If she's out there seeing this, she'll call at least and let us know that she's OK," said Chavez. "We're not mad, we're not mad at all. We just want her back."

Police fear she may have been chatting on-line with a dangerous predator. Police describe her as standing 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds and having brown hair and brown eyes. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Melanie, contact 1-888-FL-MISSING.
