Police arrest car dealer who dodged thief's bullets

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- In a twist of fate, a man who says he dodged a thief's bullets was arrested as a robbery suspect in another crime after his story aired on 7News.

Though Wynn Errico escaped would-be robbers, he was unable to dodge the eyes of the law. Thursday afternoon he was brought to the Broward County jail as a suspect in a robbery.

The car salesman was caught and cuffed by Fort Lauderdale Police less than 24 hours after his story aired on 7News, Wednesday night.

The local car salesman was featured on the news after he decided to share his story of surviving an armed robbery caught at a dealership, on Aug. 18. Security cameras captured three men pulling up in a silver Impala, as Errico was closing up.

They got out of the car and approached him. One pointed a gun at him and demanded his wallet. Errico fled, and the robber fired three bullets, but none hit him. As soon as the shots were fired, the gunman and his two accomplices ran back to their car and sped off. "I don't like giving anything to anybody that doesn't earn it," Errico said. "If you want it, you better take it because I'm not giving it to you."

Police are still looking for those robbers, and they are not disputing the story. However, according to Fort Lauderdale Police, it turned out Errico was a suspect in another case. Several months ago, police said, Errico stole hundreds of dollars worth of DVDs from a half-way house.

Police said they had been looking for him ever since but had no clue where he was until he showed his face on TV. Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Joe Curtis, one of the detectives on the case, was watching 7News and linked the salesman to the alleged crime. He saw where he worked and went there and arrested him. "I've been looking for this guy for three months," Curtis said with a smile, "and talking to a lot of people on the street, and the fact that I just came home, I was taking off my gear and saw him on the news, it was a good feeling that now we knew where he was, and he was able to be arrested."
