Home Depot helps renovate Veteran's home

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A group is giving back and is helping local veterans with home repairs.
Team Depot was out in full force renovating homes across the country. The campaign called "Celebration of Service" is a way to give back to those who have served in the armed forces. "Team Depot is Home Depot associates giving back to the community. One of our core values is to make sure that we are giving back, and this is our employees in action," said Team Depot spokesperson.
Dozens of volunteers were working hard to renovate the home of Elvin and Theresa Thompson.
Elvin, 82, is a decorated U.S. Army Veteran. "It's a new day, and I am blessed to have each and everyone here," he said.
From painting and landscaping, the group transformed the Thompsons' home. "Just recently the house was leaking and when water started to come in, then you know you have problems," said Elvin.
The Home Depot crew fixed the leak, among other things. For Elvin's wife Theresa, she already has a favorite spot inside her like-new home. "My kitchen, my kitchen. I love it. That's where I spend most of my time," she said.
Theresa can now cook on her new stainless steel appliances. The couple is thankful to all those who stopped by to lend a helping hand. "I appreciate everyone that had a hand in it, and they were so nice, so loving." said Elvin.
