PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials are assessing Plantation High School after strong winds caused damage to the campus.

Officials said, at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, wind gusts knocked over garbage cans and tore the roof off of some classrooms. The damaged roof caused water to leak into at least one of the classrooms.

A school custodian, on the grounds at the time, described what he saw and heard. "It actually sounded like a loud train just whistling through, and then we looked over. Within a couple seconds the roof lifted off the building and just kinda folded over," he said, "and debris went everywhere."

School officials said the damage should not affect Monday's classes.
