NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Residents at a South Florida apartment building are OK after the ceiling in the hallway collapsed Thursday night.

The collapse happened just before 9:30 p.m. at the Star Lake apartment building on Northeast 187th Street and Third Court. Investigators said the ceiling fell apart in an outdoor hallway on the third floor.

Workers spent Friday morning tearing off parts of the damaged roof, tossing the debris into a dumpster. The ceiling collapse affected six to eight units.

Code enforcement officials said the collapse is a result of water damage and have deemed the structure still safe to live in.

No injuries were reported.
