Couple face judge for child abuse

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A couple charged in some alarming allegations abuse have faced a judge.

Twenty-three-year-old Gabby Cancel and his girlfriend Mirta Alfonso appeared in court Friday.

Cancel faces charges of child abuse after allegedly choking and punching his girlfriend's 4-year-old son in the stomach.

It happened at their apartment off 71st Street and South Shore Drive in Miami Beach.

The boy was hospitalized with severe stomach injuries and bruising.

His mother was charged as an accessory.
