MIAMI (WSVN) -- Officials are investigating a case where a vehicle, allegedly under an officer's name, hit a taxi driver and then fled the scene.

Skyforce HD was over the Florida Highway Patrol impound lot Friday afternoon. A black Mercedes Benz was seen with extensive damage to the front, driver side.

FHP is investigating a hit-and-run crash that sent a taxi driver to the hospital last Saturday morning, between US 1 and Interstate 95.

FHP said a black Mercedes Benz was involved in the crash. It remains unknown if it is the vehicle in question.

According to FHP, the driver of the Mercedes fled the scene. The vehicle is owned, according to investigators, by Miami Police Sergeant Johnny Herrera.

Officials said even though the vehicle is under Herrera's name, anyone could have been behind the wheel, and they want to find the person responsible.

Herrera has been placed on administrative leave with pay as the investigation continues.

FHP has not released the accident report.

Neither departments are commenting due to an early investigation.
