1 dead in police-involved shooting

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- One subject is dead after police said they were forced to fire on him.

Authorities said the officer opened fire on the armed man, killing him near Hollywood Boulevard and South Ninth Avenue early Saturday morning. "They confronted the suspect and he charged the officer and the officer fired," said Sergeant Pablo Vanegas.

According to the 911 call last night, a suspicious person was knocking on doors and looking through windows. "I was told I couldn't go down the street, that there was some burglars inside the house, no one was home, my neighbors were safe," said Janet Tubito.

Police said the man was in his 30s.

The scene is still under investigation.
