PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- A 72-year-old man lost his life after losing control of his pickup truck and plunging into a canal.

The tragic accident happened just before 10 p.m. Monday in the area of Southwest 63rd Avenue and 13th Street. Investigators said the elderly man swerved off the road before ending up in the canal.

Police said neighbors reported hearing an engine rev and then a splash. "Two Good Samaritans in a boat went out and got him, picked him up and pulled him to shore," said Plantation Battalion Chief Joel Gordon.

Rescue crews transported the man to Westside Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

A 7News viewer later captured crews pulling the truck out of the canal.
