Sex offender denied bond

HALLANDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have released disturbing details of a registered sex offender from North Carolina who was found with a 12-year-old girl.

Timothy Newman, 38, remains jailed without bond Friday. "You're a sex offender, you're on the run, you're a fugitive. I mean. we can't even go down the road and list enough to list all the things that cause you to be a danger," said Broward Circuit Court Judge John Hurley.

Police said Newman confessed to having a sexual relationship with a girl from North Carolina for months, even promising to marry her.

Police arrested Newman Wednesday night in Hallandale Beach after police spotted his car following an Amber Alert.

The 12-year-old is at a safe house in Miami and will be returned to North Carolina this weekend.
