Police search for man involved in Laundromat shooting

PLANTATION, Fla. (WSVN) -- People at a Laundromat ran for cover after shots were fired but not everyone was able to escape in time.

It was just supposed to be about doing laundry last Tuesday, at the 500 block of State Road 7. At about 10:45 p.m., a man showed up to the Laundromat do dry his clothes. The man had just had an angry exchange with a few young men outside of the business who had blocked his way inside.

Surveillance footage captured the man going back outside, then caught a woman running inside. Outside, the man could be seen tucking a 9 mm automatic weapon into the back of his jeans before walking back inside like nothing had happened. But a 22-year-old woman was shot in the leg.

"They said he walked into the Laundromat," said Plantation Police Sgt. Al Butler, "went back outside to his truck, grabbed a firearm and shot several shots. I'm imagining that when they saw the gun, they all ran to try to get away from him. During the incident, the young woman ended up being shot twice."

"We never cause no problems around here," said James Easly. "It's just something that happened, I guess."

Now, investigators are asking for the woman who was seen running back in to the laundromat to come forward as a witness. "Bottom line," said Butler, "we wrote it up as an attempted murder."

If you have any information on the man seen in this video, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
