Driver loses control, pedestrian killed

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Miami-Dade Police are investigating an accident where a pedestrian was struck and killed, Wednesday.
According to police, a sport utility vehicle lost control and struck a vehicle at Northwest First Terrace. Authorities said the driver of the SUV then fled the scene and lost control again and struck a man who was standing on the sidewalk at Northwest 72nd Avenue and Third Street. The pedestrian died on the scene.
A light pole was also struck, causing a power outage in the area.
A woman who lives nearby said drivers are always driving at high rates of speed in the area. "There's no stop, there's no bump, there's no traffic light, there's a mile stretch where people go insanely speeding," said Sonia Flores.
The driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Charges remain pending.
