MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Fla.(WSVN) -- Pilots were forced to make an emergency landing after a bird strike.

An American Airlines plane arriving to Miami from Chicago, was forced to make an emergency landing after a bird struck one of the engines, Thursday night.

Passengers said they smelled smoke coming from the plane. "We'd seen the bird flying to the wing, as it was coming down for touchdown, then the plane just took back off," said a passenger. "We smelled a funny smell, which obviously was the bird."

The plane landed safely.

No injuries were reported.
