DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Pet owners are being offered a wild things reprieve.

Owners of exotic pets can turn in their animals for no charge or penalty, Saturday at Tree Tops Park in Davie.

Exotic Pet Amnesty Day is an effort to reduce the number of non-native species being released into the wild. "What this program offers is a responsible way to find a new home for your exotic pet that you can no longer care of, and it offers amnesty to the people who own animals without permitting, such as a Burmese Python. It's a great opportunity to surrender that animal with no penalties and find it a great home," said Amnesty Adoption Coordinator Liz Barraco.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Exotic animal experts will also be there to discuss the importance of caring for our native animals and the harm of releasing exotic animals in South Florida.
