MIAMI (AP) -- A bronze sculpture honoring the 50th anniversary of Operation Pedro Pan will be on display in Miami.

Miami Dade College will host a dedication Friday for artist Enrique Martinez Celaya's "The Tower of Snow" sculpture outside the Freedom Tower in Miami. The event is also hosted by the Museum of Art and Design.

More than 14,000 Cuban children were sent out of the country between late 1960 and 1962 on the so-called Pedro Pan flights organized by Catholic Church leaders following the Cuban revolution.

Martinez Celaya, a distinguished Cuban-born artist, says the sculpture represents a sense of belonging to a group "whose longing did not fit in any one heart."

The Tower of Snow will be in a park across from the Freedom Tower, facing the Port of Miami.
