Family seeks donations to help baby

MIAMI (WSVN) -- A family is in desperate need of help for the sake of their baby's health.

The International Kids Fund's Wonderfund is calling on the South Florida community to help raise $85,000 towards a life-changing surgery for 10-month-old Maria Jose Valderrama.

The little girl from Colombia suffers from a rare birth defect called cloacal exstrophy, which causes her abdominal organs to be exposed.

Jackson Memorial Hospital Dr. Rafael Gosalbez said, "There are a very select few like this little girl that have the opportunity to have a complete reconstruction to have a normal and fulfilling life."
