Couple injured, child rescued after shooting

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (WSVN) -- A double shooting left two people in critical condition and a child in danger.

Coral SPrings Police arrived at the scene near West Sample Road and Coral Springs Drive, around 8:20 Friday night. They found a man and a woman shot in the chest and an uninjured child inside the apartment at the time.

The injured couple were sent to a local hospital and the child was taken away from the scene by police. Mike Cortes witnessed how it unfolded. "There was a command given," he said, "'Open the door, drop the weapon.' Police officer ran out with a little child, I would say approximately 3 to 4 years old."

The alleged shooter surrendered after the two victims were brought out of the apartment. A motive for the shooting remains unknown. Police have not said whether the three people involved and the child are related.
