POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- A worker is recovering in the hospital after he fell into an empty water tank.

The painter fell about 5 feet to the bottom of the water tank at the treatment plant near Northwest 21st Avenue and Copans Road, Friday morning.

Officials said the man twisted his leg in the process and was unable to climb out of the tank. Crews hoisted the man on a stretcher out of the tank and Air Rescue transported him to Broward Health Medical Center.

Broward Fire Rescue officials said the man is in his 40s, and he was conscious and breathing during transport to the hospital.
