FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Retired service members took to the sky to welcome in Veteran's Day weekend Friday.

Several elderly individuals landed at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Friday afternoon, ahead Veteran's Day this Sunday.

The pilots are part of a veteran flying group known as the "12 UFOs." They flew in to celebrate the holiday with other veterans.

It is all part of the Forest Trace Community's Veteran's Day celebration. Campbell Epes, Executive Director of Forest Trace, said, "We're starting off with a veteran's ceremony recognizing over-80-plus veterans at our community, that reside with us, and their tenure and service that they performed."

The celebration will continue into the evening at the retirement community. The event included bagpipers and a formal color guard ceremony.
