Big Mama receives donations for holiday season

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida philanthropist received some holiday help with the holidays around the corner.
A local insurance company donated $1,000 to help Essie "Big Mama" Reed in her quest to assist families in need this holiday season. "What we did today was something I think everyone in our community that has the opportunity to help should do, and that's give back to our community," said Rachel Sapoznik of Sapoznik Insurance, "and people like Big Mama help us do that."
Don Green Poultry from Opa-Locka also donated to Big Mama. "Throughout the year, we try to help Big Mama with products coming out of here, to help her feed throughout the year, and we will continue to do that," said Vice President Kevin Darcy.
Big Mama is asking the community to help her as the holidays approach. "I'm asking everyone please open up your doors to help Big Mama as Sherwood Food has done, and the donator of the $1,000," she said. "I really need your help."
Big Mama hopes to deliver over 5,000 meals to needy children and families across South Florida on Thanksgiving Day.
