Toll road proposed in Pinecrest

PINECREST GARDENS, Fla. (WSVN) -- Drivers in South Florida could soon have a decision to make concerning a new toll road.
The Mayor of Pinecrest held a meeting to gather resident feedback about a Miami-Dade Expressway authority proposal to turn the current South Miami-Dade bus way into a toll road.
Many who attended Wednesday's meeting were opposed the idea. "The Village of Pinecrest has taken a position, we don't like the notion of toll lane and more cars on the road. We want transit, and we want to have a seat at the table for long range planning for South Dade County," said City of Pinecrest Mayor Cindy Lerner.
Those in attendance are concerned that eliminating the bus way and bus services would actually lead to more traffic along already busy U.S. 1.
The mayor has even been pushing for an extension of the Metrorail system south past Dadeland Mall.
