MIAMI (WSVN) -- Despite its controversy this week, the Marlins organization is coming together with other businesses to give out Thanksgiving meals to thousands of families across South Florida.

For the first time in days after the Miami Marlins scandal, the Marlins are receiving positive attention for a good cause.

The Miami Marlins foundation, businesses and groups have come together to feed thousands of families across Miami-Dade County for Thanksgiving. "Not only turkey but the entire Thanksgiving meal," said Marlins Foundation Alfredo Mesa. "It's our way of giving back. We said, as the ballpark rose to the ground that we were going to help out the community."

It's been the worst week in franchise history for the Marlins. They traded five of its best and priciest players to the Blue Jays.

The families who are picking up their meals are not concerned about baseball but are grateful to the organization for helping families this holiday. "I think this is fabulous coz many of us didn't even know that we were going to have Thanksgiving," said a woman.

This marks the fourth year the Marlins have done the giveaway and plan to continue with the tradition for years to come.
