Police search for two shooters who remain on the loose
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) -- Several people were inside a home when an attempted robbery turned into cold-blooded murder.
Police arrived at the scene in Hallandale Beach to comb through the house, looking for clues all day long, Saturday.
Family members were brought to their knees with grief, unable to stand, after learning of the death of 20-year-old Lazaro Cuesta. His grandmother helped raise him. "He was a very well-liked person," said Lemorris Carrol. "Everybody knew him, everybody liked him."
Police said Cuesta was one of five men inside a Hallandale Beach home when two armed robbers opened fire, Saturday morning. "I heard two boom, boom, in rapid succession." said Ronnie Cruz. "My dogs started making noise, and I didn't think anything of it. By the time I came to see what was going on, everyone was already on the scene."
When police arrived, Cuesta was dead. As news spread, friends and family swarmed the neighborhood, shocked by what they learned. "He was a good guy," said a friend. "You know, always smiling, telling jokes. He's so young. He had so much to live for."
Now police are left investigating with seemingly little information, early on. "We know that there was a shooting, obviously," said a police investigator. "We know that there was a robbery, an attempted robbery, and we know that there is a person in there who is dead."
Which means plenty of unanswered questions for the grieving family to ponder.
The two shooters are still on the loose. The only description given to police is that both men wanted in the shooting have dreadlocks. One is taller and the other shorter.
