TAMARAC, Fla. (WSVN) -- Officials said a South Florida elementary school student has been diagnosed with meningitis.

Parents received an official letter from Challenger Elementary Friday after a student was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.

The school asked parents to be aware of any symptoms their children may have. "I know there's certain incubation periods," said Stacey Wrigley. "I know that there's symptoms that we still need to look for. I think every parent should still look for it in their child, but I feel that my child will be confident and safe in his class."

School officials advised parents that if any child is showing symptoms, they are not allowed in school until they are cleared by medical professionals.
