FORT LAUDERDALE-HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Fla. (WSVN) -- An airport protest took place during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

Service workers at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport protested on Monday for better pay and work conditions.

Among the workers were passenger assistants and aircraft cleaners who want basic benefits like health insurance and paid sick time.

A Union official was helping the workers spread their message. "They are not able to enjoy Thanksgiving in the same way the rest of us are," said SEIU Local Florida District Director Eric Brakken. "So we were here today to kick off a campaign to try and change that."

The union said wages are as low as $4.65 for some airport employees, barely covering their basic needs.
