MIAMI (WSVN) -- A South Florida medical assistance team has returned home after helping with hurricane Sandy relief.

Members of the Florida-5 disaster medical assistance team returned to South Florida Sunday. The team staffing a field hospital made up of tents for the past two weeks in Long Beach, New York.

"I grew up on Long Island, so in many ways that was going home," said team Member Dr. Carol Batwin, "and if I was going to help, what better place to help than where I grew up?"

The crew treated people with injuries as a result of Sandy, seeing up to 60 patients a day.

Some patients came in after falling ill during clean-up and others seeking mental and emotional support for the devastation.
